Each module offered has been accredited by Class NK MET. Each certificate issued has a unique serial number to the holder.

How To Register?

• Endorsement of the trainees from their Manning Agent to PJMCC.

• Scheduling date of trainees as per training schedule of PJMTM.

• Reporting of qualified trainees to PJMCC Main Office to get their admission forms.

• Trainees who will take their training at JSU-Amosup Mariners' Home will proceed to the 3nd Floor.

How can I be certain that my personal data is protected?

Confidentiality of all data furnished by the Trainee to the PJMTM are protected. The only information that can be revealed in the PJMTM website are public information that appear in the Certificate of Completion , e.g. address, name and date of Training.

Is the training also generic?

No, it is not. It is a type specific ECDIS training course (e.g. JRC, Furuno, and Tokyo Keiki).

Is the training IMO and Flag State approved?

The IMO and the Flag States do not approve type-specific training courses. Flag States issue their individual guidelines for ECDIS training, where most of them require that the trainer and the course content are manufacturer approved.

What happens if I fail the test?

Trainees who fail the written and/or practical assessment will be given the chance to retake the re-assessment twice within two months from the initial TSET session. Trainees who fail the 2nd re-assessment shall be required to re-take the entire trype specific ECDIS training course.

Are there any rules or regulations on the duration of ECDIS type specific training?

Whereas the recommended minimum duration of generic ECDIS training courses, which are based on the IMO Model Course 1.27 is 40 hours spread over 5 days, no such rules appear to exist with regards to the duration of type specific training.

The approach by Flag States seems to allow the ECDIS equipment manufacturers to decide on the duration of type specific training programs on the basis that general competence will have already been demonstrated by successfully completing a generic training course and that type specific training is really the application of that competency to a particular make and model of ECDIS equipment.

Must type-specific training be approved by the Flag State?

While ECDIS users are required to undertake type-specific ECDIS training, the Flag States generally do not approve type-specific training courses and leave it to the ECDIS manufacturers to develop appropriate training programs for delivery either directly by the manufacturers, the manufacturer’s approved agent or a trainer who has attended such a program.

Is ECDIS type-specific training the same as ECDIS familiarization?

No, they are not the same.

Type-specific training infers becoming acquainted and competent with how the ECDIS functionality (as per the IMO performance standards) has been implemented in a particular make and model of ECDIS by the equipment manufacturer, and understanding the specific buttons, control, menu structure, etc. in order to operate that particular ECDIS competently.

Familiarization infers knowledge and competency on how that specific ECDIS models is incorporated into a wider integrated navigation system aboard ship and how the Company’s Safety Management System (SMS) relates to ECDIS operations. Such familiarization should include detailed knowledge of ECDIS instructions and procedures appertaining to that particular vessel as well as, for example, knowledge of the sensors connected to the ECDIS, the approved back-up arrangements, the means for receiving chart data and updates and applying them to the ENC database etc.
